That's right. September is coming to a close and that means the big game is fast approaching.

This is a delayed showing of the game so avoid all contact with Australia and the internet in general on the day, especially if your team is playing. That way the match won’t be ruined for you. 

A word of warning. If anyone even hints at the final result they will be obliged to pay for a round of drinks for everyone present. And judging by the good turnout in previous years that could be costly.

Come and join Gudonya at our next event Drinks in Madrid de los Austrias.

We’ve found a lovely square in central Madrid and a great bar that will look after us. 

The plan is to meet for drinks (coffee, tea, beer, wine, copas or whatever you fancy) but there will also be food on hand If you get the nibbles. There is also an option for dinner for those who stay to the end.

The event is family-friendly so kids are welcome. The bar is on a quiet square so young and old can run around to their heart's delight. I’m tempted to bring the cricket bat and a taped-up tennis ball, and play a few overs. There is a rubbish bin in the middle of the square that would make for perfect stumps.

We are working hard to get some Coopers beer for the big day. Let us know if you prefer Pale, Sparkling or Extra Stout.

Gudonya has organised its Christmas Party to be held on Wednesday 13 December at 7pm.

We return to one of our favorite watering holes, Platea, on Plaza Colón.

It’s casual, everyone is welcome, there's no entry fee, and there's plenty of food & drink available to buy. It will be pay-as-you-go.

Head left as you walk in any of the doors on the entry level, we'll have an area set aside underneath the stage. We should be easy to spot.

It starts at 7pm and finishes when the last Aussie leaves.

INTRODUCTION TO WINE TASTING AND SPANISH WINES

As requested by numerous members, we have organised a wine tasting and tapas evening on Friday 27 February. Some of you may know that Luis, who will host the evening, has worked many years in the wine industry including the areas of winemaking, distribution, journalism, competition judging, teaching and gastronomic events.

Being the first ever wine event we have organised for Gudonya and considering the range of people who have already expressed interest in attending, the evening will begin with a brief introduction to wine tasting, which will be followed by four wines that represent Spain well. Theory and practice. The evening will finish with a range of lovely tapas for dinner, during which we can discuss food and wine matching.

Why charge beforehand? The nature of the evening is different to all other Gudonya events for a number of different reasons. We want to discourage people from booking and not turning up. Food and wine will be bought and prepared especially for the evening and has to be paid for. Although the room appears large, there is only space for 24 people and we want as many as possible to enjoy the event. We suspect it will be a full house. Your money will be refunded if you cancel at least 48 hours before the start of the tasting. However, even if you have paid and you cannot attend, we will return your money if others make a reservation in your place, which we strongly suspect will be the case. There will be a waiting list to facilitate this.
